Peter Jarman

Born 1935. Doctorate in physics from University of London, before 1982 teacher of physics, plant biophysics, and energy and defence policy in Australia, the USA, Switzerland and the UK.

From 1982 to 1991, Europe Secretary of British and Irish Quakers at the international department of The Religious Society of Friends in the UK. Specialized in the the human problems of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union which he visited many times.

Between 1991 and 1994 Quaker representative and accredited journalist in Moscow.

Together with his wife Roswitha he is particularly engaged in the Caucasus in general and the Chechenya conflict in particularly; they work with individuals and groups concerned with conflict resolution, especially ethnic conflicts, non-violence and a spiritual approach to life.

Now Elder of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Clerk of the Management Council of Quaker Social Action that seeks to alleviate poverty in East London and member of the Network of Socially Engaged Buddhists and of the Amida Trust, a charity promoting Zen psychotherapy.

Peter Jarman joined the foundation first as an adviser in 1991 and, later, as Associate and a member of the foundation's conflict-mitigation team to former Yugoslavia.
