Formal
training in physics, with a PhD from Sydney University.
Worked for ten years at the Australian National University
as applied mathematician, in areas including stratospheric
modeling, astrophysics, numerical methods, and wind power in
electricity grids. Simultaneously studied the political and
sociological aspects of science and became involved in the
radical science movement, the anti-uranium and the peace
movement. Since 1986 Dr. Martin is senior lecturer in the
Department of Science and Technology Studies at the
University of Wollongong. Since that time his research has
been in largely three areas: power in science, social
defence and the role of information in free societies. He is
a specialist in nonviolent community resistance, dissent and
struggle as alternative defence methods, and a leading
member of Whistleblowers Australia, an organisation that
seeks to make it possible to speak out without reprisal
about corruption, dangers to the public, environmental and
other vital social issues.
